“I Protagonisti del West” ( English: “The Protagonists of the West” ). An Italian comic series.

In my youth, in 1974, my dad gave me some western comics as a gift. A comic exclusively in black and white drawing. The stories were not fictional but American West characters’ biographies.

Unfortunately, this series ended after less than a year, with only 10 issues published, due to the death of his author, Rino Albertarelli, one of the great masters of Italian comics.

A second series was released in 1999. Truly horrible both as texts and as drawings. Absolutely not up to the original series.

These characters are:

First ( original and best ) series: George Armstrong Custer, Geronimo, Billy the Kid, Jedediah Smith, Sitting Bull, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, Frank M. Canton, Bill Doolin and Herman Lehmann.

Second series: Davy Crockett, Red Cloud, Buffalo Bill, Cochise, Calamity Jane, Kit Carson, Jesse James, Butch Cassidy, Allan Pinkerton and Chief Joseph.

Today my dear friend Antonio ( He is a very gifted guy who gets better from month to month. He deserves to be followed on his Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/thelonelywargamer/posts ) handed me two commissioned sets. Now I want to share these paper soldiers with you (You find them in the files section). They are the covers of those old comics ... Have a good day friends and colleagues.

Custer on horseback is a bonus for Kavalergard forum. It is only in jpg format (above), because it has been removed from the final two sets.

After nearly two years ... That's another story ... this is not a printed sheet which has since been digitized, but it is a unique hand-painted watercolor, first drawn and then painted, by the famous artist Patrice COURCELLE ( Patrice COURCELLE - Napoleonic Wars ).

I am the owner of this drawing and I have had the consent of mr. COURCELLE to be able to share this image without commercial purposes.

Le 25 juin dernier voyait l'anniversaire de la mythique bataille de Little Big Horn, où le légentaire Custer a trouvé la mort. Re-découverte dans mes tiroirs (dont il sort ici et là toujours quelque chose 🙂 ). Je dispose d'ailleurs d'une bonne documentation sur le sujet. Cette planche originale, unique donc, a été réalisée dans les années 1990, pour le plaisir et inédite.
